Supporting older LGBT people

September 23rd, 2013 | Posted by Gordon Deuchars in Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

Opening Doors London, http://www.openingdoorslondon.org.uk/  has produced an Equalities Checklist showing how social care providers can support older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in care settings. This is against the background that older LGBT people often do not “come out” and their needs are often not recognised by social care providers. To discuss the issues further please contact Stacey Halls – 0207 121 3331, stacey.halls@ageukcamden.org.uk

Opening Doors London with Age UK Camden as the lead agency, and in partnership with Age UKs across London, is the biggest project providing information and support services to and with older lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (OLGBT) people in the UK.

Their latest events listings (for September) is now out full of 4 pages of events.

About

The Age UK London Knowledge Hub is a new website from Age UK London. It is part of the organisation’s ‘Fit 4 Purpose’ project, which is funded by London Councils.

The Knowledge Hub will provide information, spread best practice, support user consultation and provide equality and benchmarking tools to help organisations demonstrate impact.

The Knowledge Hub brings together resources, links and information to help do this.

We welcome comments from anyone interested in these issues but are particularly trying to engage with older people’s organisations in London.

The ‘Fit 4 Purpose’ project will support, inform, up-skill and network at least 400 voluntary and community organisations working with older people, across all London boroughs. It will help them effectively manage income reductions by providing them with the knowledge and skills to broker partnerships, ‘stay afloat’ and most effectively serve their users.
